Chart Analytic Interface

Control Layout

The Chart Analytic has a few more buttons than other ClearView charts, but it is quite straightforward with the information it displays.

At the top there is a toolbar to help interact with the Chart Analytic.

Below the toolbar are two basic panels, the Price Panel (top, green and red) and the Volume Panel (bottom, blue and orange). Each panel has its own scale (displayed on the right) and they share a horizontal time scale (very bottom).

User Interaction

Toolbar

The toolbar is your main source of control over the Chart Analytic.

Some icons may be toggled (an inset icon means it is enabled) while others may only be clicked. The purpose of each icon is given below.

Mouse Modes

There are 4 different modes of operation your mouse can assume. Clicking these buttons on the toolbar will switch between mouse modes.

Selection Mode
When in Selection Mode, you may left-click objects (drawn items, indicators, text) to select them and right-click objects to modify them. You may also drag items around – you may move drawn and text items or drag an indicator to another panel.

Zoom Mode
When in Zoom Mode, left-clicking will zoom the chart in, right-clicking will zoom the chart out. If you have disabled chart updates, you may also select a specific range to zoom by left clicking the beginning and then left-clicking the end of the area you wish to zoom.

Text Mode
When in Text Mode, left-clicking start will place a text cursor on the chart and allow you to enter text. End your text entry by pressing the "Enter" key.

Draw Mode
When in Draw Mode, left-clicking once will begin a draw object and left-clicking a second time will end it. You may specify your desired draw object using the dropdown menu next to the Pencil icon. Most objects are free-form while some draw according to price data (Tirone Levels, Quadrant Lines, Raff Regression, Error Channels). After drawing an object, you may switch your mouse to Selection Mode to modify the drawn object.

Chart Series

These icons control the series displayed in the Chart Analytic.

Price Series
Left-clicking the Price Series icon will toggle the Price panel on and off. You may use the dropdown menu next to the Price Series icon to specify the style in which the price series is drawn.

Volume Series
Left-clicking the Volume Series icon will toggle the Volume panel on and off. You may use the dropdown menu next to the Volume Series icon to specify the style in which the volume series is drawn.

Indicators
Indicators are studies that are applied to the different series. There are many different indicators and each has its own strengths.

Chart Data

These icons control the time interval into which the data is segmented.

Time Interval
By default, all Charts Analytic are realtime. You can, however, disable live updates by clicking on the Time Interval icon. When the icon is depressed, you are looking at a data snapshot. Clicking the icon again (returning it to its normal state) will enable live updates and put your chart back in realtime mode. To define the frequency of the chart displayed, use the dropdown menu next to the Time Interval icon.

Time Left
This will decrease the time interval of the chart data. E.G. if the chart uses 10 second data, clicking this will refresh the chart using 5 second data. Clicking again will refresh the chart using 1 day data – since 5 second is the smallest time interval, clicking left will wrap around to the largest.

Time Right
This will increase the time interval of the chart data. E.G. if the chart uses 1 hour data, clicking this will refresh the chart using 1 day data. Clicking again will refresh the chart using 1 second data – since 1 day is the largest time interval, clicking right will wrap around to the smallest.

Chart Display

These icons allow you to modify basic aspects of the look of your Chart Analytic.

or Volume Panel Data
The Volume Panel Data icon displays the type of data that is currently displayed in the Volume Panel. If the displayed icon is a "T", the volume panel displays the number of trades, and if it is a "V" the volume panel displays the share volume. You may click this icon to toggle between the different data.

3D:
The 3D icon controls whether the chart is drawn with 3D style. Only certain price and volume styles utilize the 3D parameter.

Crosshairs
The Crosshairs icon toggles whether crosshairs are enabled on the chart.

Chart Settings:

Settings
The Settings icon brings up the Settings dialog. Clicking it is the same as right-clicking the window's caption bar and selecting "Settings".

Mouse Usage

As explained above, the mouse can be used to select objects, to move objects, to zoom, etc. The mouse may also zoom with the mouse wheel (forward to zoom in, backward to zoom out). And lastly, you can use the mouse to resize the panels within the chart. Just place your cursor over the horizontal line between panels and the mouse icon will change. Left-click and drag the panel splitter to the desired location.
